Who would have thought submitting our bodies to electrical stimulation would actually be good for us? Not me, that’s for sure. My parents taught to be aware and careful when working with anything electrical. Put your shoes on during a storm, while working on something electrical to avoid a shock! Therefore, the concept of using electricity to help heal my body was very hard to accept despite being told otherwise. However, I decided to do some research and try it. Guess what?! It really helped! It can help you as well if you’re willing to give it a try. Here’s a little information about how it works and what to expect.
It's Electrical Stimulation!!
Electric Muscle stimulation (EMS) or transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), is a therapy that has been around for decades. Nerves and muscles benefit from this treatment. These machines generate electric impulses that stimulate your muscles to contract. This therapy i done on different settings and patterns depending on the type of treatment needed or the area being worked on. The treatments are safe and painless with very few side effects if any when administered by a professional.
Did you know electrical stimulation is one of the most commonly used therapies for soft tissue injuries?
The main purpose of the therapy is to replicate what happens when you voluntarily contract and release a muscle many times in a row. Imagine doing this yourself would be so very tiring, therefore the machine makes it happen. This process helps strengthen and repair your tissues. Most importantly, it helps muscles that have become issues due to injury or disease. Electrical stimulation will help ease discomfort from many other conditions such as arthritis, Fibromyalgia, plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and much more.

_____Electrical stimulation Uses
TENS Units can be used at home to help manage pain.
TENS units are small and portable so that they may be used at home or while traveling. They are usually powered by batteries and 2-4 electrode pads with wires are included in the carrying case. Some units include instructions on pad placement. We recommend you seek the advice of your doctor in regards to safety, suggested placement, or settings to use. (This is not to be used by anyone with a pacemaker as it will cause issues.)
Electrical stimulation is not the only therapy treatment available at our office to help with your pain and discomfort. We offer many different therapies such as A.R.T ( Active Release Technique), massage therapy, manual traction, and more!
